DecoArt Blogger Outreach Shabby chic Altered Jar

Hello all

It has been a difficult week with things not getting any easier anytime soon.  The Father in Law is seriously ill in hospital at the moment and we are not sure if he will be well enough to come back out. Although the hospital staff are doing a wonderful job of keeping him going.

I do have a new project for you today which is a shabby chic jar i created from an empty beetroot jar. Make sure it is full washed and all labels are removed before coating with DecoArt White Gesso. You can find more DecoArt products and inspiration here http://decoart.com/community

Products used
The Works Charm Pack
Docrafts Madam Payrud's Lace Trims
Assorted Paper Roses
Assorted Ribbon roses
Assorted Buttons

DecoArt do make chalky finish paint for glass but i didn't have the colour i wanted so i used 4 coats of Innocent from the Americana Chalky Finish Paint Range. Leave to dry fully and then paint over with Sealer or Matt Finish.

I used Trimcraft First Edition Pretty Poesy to decorate the center of the jar and i just cut it to fit. Next add a bit of wide lace trim around the center.

I added a large flower as the focal point and then added matching embellishments around it.

I created the lid by painting over it and then gluing pink lace around the lid. I then glued embellishments to the top and filled the lid.

Prima Marketing Rossibelle Love Heart Mixed Media Canvas

 Hi all

I have a new canvas i made using the Prima Rossibelle Collection. This started off as a £3 wooden blank from The Works which i painted with DecoArt white gesso.

Products used

Tim Holtz Stencil Gothic

I covered the base with a Tim Holtz stencil Gothic and then painted it all over with DecoArt Crafters Acrylic Tutti Frutti and left it to dry.

I then spritzed it with DecoArt Magenta Media Mister which when it dried created the darker patches. I then rubbed DecoArt Titanium White Antiquating Cream around the edges. I then added another stencil over the top.

I cut the Prima Rossibelle papers up into strips and cut up the sheet with all the journal boxes on. I layered them up and added ribbon and different textured papers together and just experimented with the position before gluing it down.

I then added the chipboard shapes and added sequins around the base.

Add a few pearls

Finish off with a bow

Mischief Circus New Release Fantastic Steampunk Kit

Hi all

I decided to have some fun with the new Steampunk kit featuring these Victorian Animorphs. You can find the new kit here https://www.mischiefcircus.com/shop/product.php?productid=24288. There is also a free Steampunk Alphabet to download too which is here https://www.mischiefcircus.com/shop/product.php?productid=24289

The papers are printed out and i covered a 6 x 6 card with the patterned paper. I cut out a 4 x 4 square and added my Animorph to the edge before printing off the free Steampunk Alphabet and creating the sentiments.

I thought she looked sassy so i found a sassy quote to go with the image.

How To Create an Inspirational Mixed Media Card Using Brusho Inks

Hi all

I have been playing around with my Brushos again and this time i blotted the excess ink off with a baby wipe which gives this lovely blended look.

Product List

Brushos Ultramarine, Turquoise and Purple

DecoArt White Gesso, Black Modeling Paste and Pixlated Stencil

Bee Crafty Stamps Poppy boarder

Creative Expressions Arty Background stamp set

Shot of full project

Spritz water onto the card and then flick the Brusho powders over the top using a paint bush this allows you to control where the powder lands. Once dry  apply  DecoArt White Gesso  to  middle of the card with a palette knife.

Dab with a baby wipe to soak up excess ink and then reuse this to add more ink over the card once the first layer has dried. Keep your inked up baby wipes and let them dry out as they are great for adding texture to your mixed media projects.
Add a row of stars with Decoart Black Modeling paste.

Brusho Crystal Powders are perfect for creating your own spritzing inks, just fill a small atomizer bottle with water and add the powder of your choice using a palette knife. The powders will last a very long time and if they dry out you can add water again and reuse them.

Close up of layers

The wooden dragonfly is from Docrafts Bare Basic Collection and i painted it with white acrylic paint and once it had dried i then stamped over the top using one of the texture stamps. I decorated it by adding a bow and resin flower to the centre.

Angled shot of stamping

I added a few paper layers which i cut from paper scraps and layered them up. I just layer all the bits out onto the card until i like the layout and then carefully glue it all down. I added texture stamps along the edge of the card and finished with a sentiment.

Making Cards Magazine Three Ways with Colour Pop Mini

Hi all

I can now share my makes for Making Cards Magazine October issue. i made three cards using just Susan K Weckesser Inks and Stamps to create three different cards.

I used a die cut to create the round card shape but you can also use a tea saucer. Just make sure you leave a bit of the fold uncut otherwise it will fall to bits.

I used the Color Pop Mini inks and mixed them with water so that they can be used as a watercolor paint. I flicked water on with a brush to get the spotted effect and then used In Circle me to add texture.

I made a heart shaped card using the Xcut Heart Nesting Die. I mixed Kiss and Snow inks to create a salmon pink color which i used to paint the background. I used In Circle me again but colored in the circles separately.

To get that grungy edge around the image i roughly dabbed black ink around the edges and then colored it in after it had dried.

The last card i created the background using Clearsnap Color Pop Mini inks and  the In Circle Me stamp

I used Bunny Hugs for the main feature and A Little Bit Washi for the sentiment.
