Artful Days Valentines Altered Heart Tray

Hi all

I have a home decor project to share today. 

This started off as a wooden heart tray.

Coat the tray with gesso and then mix gesso with Rose Red Brusho Powder and paint over the first coat. Mix Rose Red with crackle paint and apply to the base of the tray. Next stamp over the base with a texture stamp.

Use a hot glue gun to adhere a string of LED lights around the tray. These are available at Poundland and come in different colours. I then carefully glued hessian ribbon around the edge to hide the wires.

Create a heart pillow by cutting out a heart shape using a nesting die and then dying it with ink. Sew and stuff it and glue it to the corner of the tray. 

Glue a resin heart to the centre.

Gather an assortment of flowers and start gluing them around the inside of the tray. Use small flowers to fill the gaps.

The memory nest January Color Challenge

my  first challenge of 2014 at http://thememorynest.blogspot.co.uk/p/make-it-monday.html. now that the madness of Christmas and new year is over I can get back to my blog and hopefully will be adding more creations over the next few weeks.

 I choose the blue and green tones from the challenge as they work well with the tan background. I combined Dear Lizzy with Papermania and used a stencil mask and modelling paste to create the background.

 the flowers I made using the new Xcut A5 flower die set and after cutting out the pieces I used a balling tool to rough up the petals.

this one is going in my holiday scrapbook which I am trying to get finished but there never seems to be enough time in the day.

My alternative interpretation of this sketch, i had a lot of fun playing around with this sketch and made two layouts with it. one i submitted to the DT Challenge. It was a hard decision on one hand i wanted to stand out and try something new and on the other hand i wanted to follow the trend.  I see every experience as a learning curve and will try again when the next design team call starts.

i used the Tim Holtz Tattered Florals die for the flowers and i distressed them using a balling tool to fluff up the petals.

I spent a whole rainy afternoon creating this page and i think that if you invest time into your layouts then you will get a good quality page.  But also invest time to journal about the subject of your page otherwise the memory will be lost amongst all those pretty things we like to stick on our pages.

Today  will show you how to get a simple distressed look using chipboard.

 using embosing ink, stamp a texture or pattern on to bare chipboard with clear stamps. i used Bo'bunny distressed textures on mine. Then while the ink is wet, coat it in clear embossing powder and meat it with a heat tool. Once it has dryed and cooled off dab acrylic paint that has been weaked with water over the top and let it dry. You could wipe off some of the paint if you want a more defined pattern or distress it with sandpaper.

 if you are going to stick things like beads on to chipboard use a strong adhesive and be prepared to get it all over your fingers. Don't worry it comes off with warm water eventually.

 To make it easier to fold and distress the edges of your page, first wet the edges with water using a sponge then tear and roll the page until you have the look you want. I created a creamy brown paint by mixing Tim Holtz old photo ink with white acrylic paint and dabed it around the edges.

I used card i had recycled from food packaging and then embossed the stamp and cut it out. I found that it loos more three dimensonal the just stamping it directly on the page.
