Things to Alter How To Weather Wood Ornaments

Hi all

Would you like to learn how to create a totally weather worn look on your projects? What about a realistic rusty water look?

I just wanted to mention that Andy Skinner did the Crackle effect tutorial first and that i am just adding my spin on it.

Here is what it looks like before i altered it and you can get these from Poundland. Go quick before they put the Christmas stuff out.

First coat the plaque in black paint and then once dry add a  coat of Weathered Wood Crackle paint. You can also use pva glue but skip the crackle paint layer and use white paint instead as the crackle paste won't crackle if you use it with pva.

If you use the weathered wood crackle medium let this dry before painting on the crackle paint. If you use pva glue then paint on the white paint while it is wet.

Add a couple of blobs of Quinacridone gold fluid acrylic around the plaque.

Lift the plaque up slightly and add drops of water on to the paint with a brush and drag the colour down. Add more water to fade it out more and create a more weathered look.

Leave to dry

DecoArt Blogger Outreach Program: Up-cycled Vintage Magazine Holder

Hi all
i am sharing my first make for the DecoArt Blogger Outreach Program. I have an altered magazine holder which i coated in Americana Chalky Finish paint.

I started by sanding off the old varnish and coating with Americana Decor  Innocent Chalky Finish paint.

I Then painted a layer of Weathered Wood crackle medium and let it dry before painting over with Americana Chalky Finish Everlasting Paint.

I painted another coat of Weathered Wood Medium over the top and painted another layer of Americana Chalky Finish Innocent paint. As the paint layers cracked it toned down the pink a little and left this lovely distressed effect.

The Weathered Wood Medium creates large defined cracks.

I lined the bottom of the magazine holder with  Victorian Romance Decou-Page Paper

Trimcraft DecoMache Altered Mirror

Hi all

I have something a bit different to share today. I bought this old mirror from the charity shop and decided to up-cycle it using the First Edition Deco Mache papers.

I started off by painting over the old pattern with DecoArt Everlasting Chalk Paint and letting it dry before i started laying up the deco mach papers. I only used on pack of 3 sheets for this project but you could add another layer if you need to.

I had a lot of fun creating the embellishments.  I used organza ribbon to make these flowers which i decorated with resin flowers and buttons.

The lace flowers are easy to make, just take a length of lace trim and stitch along the top with a running stitch. Push the lace up to one end and tie the thread ends together.

I used scraps of Deco Mache to decorate MDF shapes and added acordian stickers in between the fabric flowers.

Introducing the new Dovecraft value pads

Happy Easter everyone

Today i am blogging about the new Dovecraft Value paper pads which i have used to make these pen organizers. They come in for designs which are Leyton, Crowning Affair, Bloom and Grow and More or less. You can view more about them here http://www.trimcraft.co.uk/products/790/value-papers-albums

you will need a few empty tins that have been washed and dried, soak off the labels with soapy water. once dry paint the tins with Americana Chalky Finish paint and leave to dry.

I used the 12 x 12 sized paper packs and cut 10 cm wide strips of paper and wound them around the tins to cover them or you can cut thinner strips to show more of the paint work if you wanted a rustic look.

These tins look great when decorated with a variety of different trims.  I rubbed paint over a wooden embellishment so that i would get a weathered look and then i threaded twine through it and tied it around the tin. I kept everything in place with hot glue.

I use various sized paper blossoms to create the central feature. I just layered them together and finished with a resin flowers.

Something a bit Kawaii

I have recently got into the whole Kawaii craze and found that The Little Meow range fell into this category. Kawaii is Japanese for cute and applies to anything brightly colored and cartoonish, mostly big eyed animals and people.

I started off with a plain wooden clipboard and painted the edges with purple acrylic paint. Then i used crackle medium on top of the first layer. I painted lilac paint over this before the crackle medium dried and used a heat gun to dry it off.

For the clip, i watered down some texture paste and painted it over the clip as a primer before painting it purple. Once dry i grabbed a random assortment of buttons and cabs which i glued down with uno glue. This stuff is so strong it melts plastic but its ok as long as its applied to an area that wont be on show. When painting the clip, place a bit of scrap paper under it so that the paint and glue doesnt get onto the base part.

I decorated the base of the clipboard with a sheet of A4 patterned paper which i trimmed about 1.5 cm off each side.

This is from one of the little meow stamp sets and i love them to bits. I made custom clips by stamping the kitten images on to card stock and colouring it in with the new Artiste watercolour pens. I then glued them onto mini pegs.

This is just a cheap notepad i pucked up from poundland. I just used the toppers and stickers from the ultimate decoupage kit.

Just a few close ups of how this is made

I made a pen holder by gluing a lengh of elastic to the board. i just looped it up and held it in place while the glue dried. Im showing off abit of my cute stationery off. The hello kitty clip is made by hot gluing a large cabochon to a big paperclip.

Thanks for visiting and if you have made anything Kawaii then please share by tagging me on instagram at @katiel238.

Happy crafting this weekend.

Sweet Paris altered notebook

Ive been a bit quiet this last few weeks but I've been busy trying to make things to share. This week i have a new project i made using the new Dovecraft range Sweet Paris.

I have started off with a hardback notebook, the kind you buy from The Works for a couple of quid. I painted around the edges of the book with a few layers of acrylic paint so that the old cover doesn't show through when i cover it.

I took a sheet of 12x12 paper and covered the book cover up to the spine. I then trimmed it to fit leaving about 2in of paper to wrap around the inside. Just like when you covered your school books.

I covered up any gaps by gluing a length of ribbon down the front of the book. I used the pink ribbon from the Tiny Tatty Ted girl range.

For the front i took two large paper blossoms and layered them together. I then glued two hatpins to the flower. I painted a wooden embellishment and added that to the centre to create the central embellishment.

I took several different embellishments and glued them to the corners of the book in clusters of five for impact. Odd numbers always look better for some reason.

To make a fastener. I glued a large resin flower to the edge of the opening. I then turned the book over and hot glued a length of twine to the back. I covered the back with paper to hold it in place.

I used the First Edition tag die set to make page tabs for finding things easier.

a new art canvas and introduction to Decomedia by Trimcraft

Hi everyone i have some more new products to demonstrate to you today. Trimcraft have just introduced the Deco Art range which includes a multitude of different paints and finishes. The range is suitable for both crafting and home decor. but today i am going to introduce the Decomedia spritzing inks.
i started off by coating a old canvas wall hanging with a thick layer of texture paste and let it dry over night. i then cut out three honeycomb background die cuts and pasted them to the background. i then just spritzed the colours around randomly adding a few stamps and let it dry.
i finished it off with a quote i made using different alphabet die cuts and a mixture of embellishments. i then spritzed over them again and added a few ink drops for effect.

i used the Magenta, Primary Yellow and turquoise inks and you can find them on the website www.trimcraft.co.uk

Docrafts monday: A shabby chic sewing kit

Hello and welcome to my blog, today I am sharing with you a mini sewing kit I made using Docraft's products
the box was made by cutting out two large rectangles using the xcut nesting die. I stuck the two halves together and cut an inch off the bottom. I then folded over leavening about two inches showing on the bottom. I made two creases parallel to each other and folded up the bottom to make the flap.
The rose I made by following a Tutorial from Becky Jame's blog http://rebeccajamesdesignstudio.blogspot.co.uk/
I made the button card by cutting out one of the Madame payraud's note cards with the small square nesting die and gluing buttons to it.

I used the cousins bead sets and glued them in place with a glue gun I then glued them in place using hot glue.
