Life in a Snapshot Torquay Mixed Media Layout

Hi all here is my scrapbook page for the October sketch challenge. I am experimenting with DecoArt Acrylic paints which i used to create a mixed media background. 

I used Trimcraft Back to Basics True Blue for the paper layers and Kaisercraft texture stamps on the background,

I applied a couple of stencils using DecoArt Modeling Paste to add texture and then flicked white ink over the page.

I then decorated the page woth resin flowers and sequins

Life in a Snapshot October Sketch Challenge

I love this photo from the Sealife Sanctuary  Weymouth so i decided to add it to a layout

I used Ocean blue spritzing ink and  the new Capsule Collection Geometric Stencils on the background

I used the new Creativity Essentials Geometric stamp set  to add texture. Then finished off the page with some flowers and buttons.

The Memory Nest Make it Monday 30

Hi all i start off the December challenges with a new sketch and layout. if you would like to play along the join us at www.thememorynest.blogspot.co.uk. winners will get the chance to guest design in the next challenge. December is going to be one of those months where i will be changing design teams as most of my terms end this month. I am waiting to find out if i am continuing on with Docrafts and i have stepped down from The Memory Nest so we will be announcing a new team next week.

You can take any inspiration from the sketch  you like and here is my interpretation below

i wanted to do another nautical layout using the lovely sea shell stamps by Oak House Studios. i also used their sea blue ink and denim blue embossing powder to give the stamps more detail. The photo is of the Portland Bill lighthouse near Weymouth Dorset.  it a lovely area surrounded by dramatic rocky landscapes and blue sea, very calming.

Here i have used a selection of paper flowers and embellishments form Trimcraft. i used the Dovecraft essentials 3D pearls to give them a shimmer effect.

 I
 used the Memory Box Texture Disperse stencil (88507) to create the background and then spritzed over it with Oak House Studio's Vintage blue and Tempting Teal spray inks.

i used a stencil mask  Alpha Crumbled (88500) by Memory Box, to create the title using Slate grey ink from the Colour Chemistry range (www.oakhousestudio.com). i just rubbed over the letters using a make up sponge.

The Memory Nest Make it Monday 28

Hi today i have a new sketch for you and i am also introducing an exciting new rang from Trimcraft. This is the Sail Away paper pad from our First Edition Range. I just love all the seaside images and nautical patterns which are perfect for all of those holiday photos. These pads come with different textured papers. My layout below  was created using one of the canvas style textures. These are brilliant at holding inks and paints. if you would like to play along with the sketch challenge then please link up your projects at www.thememorynest.blogspot.co.uk.

There are no rules with mixed media, its up to you what textures and colors you want to add to your layouts. i stuck with blue tones with the odd contrasting color in order to blend in with the overall color theme of the papers.

I started this project off by painting a large area of the page in gesso and leaving it to dry. I then  used a boarder stencil across the page and rubbed over it with ink using a make up sponge. I mixed a bit of turquoise powdered Blusido ink into modeling paste and smothered it over a stencil mask using an old plastic card. Be careful when using this kind of medium as it stains where it touches like my hands it took two days for it to wash off.

 i have used an assortment of embelisments from the Fun Fair and Forget me not ranges by Dovecraft. you can find out about these products here www.trimcraft.co.uk. I
 painted over them with white acrylic paint and let it dry before flicking some Ocean Blue Spritzing ink over it.

The Memory Nest Make it Monday 27

Hi everyone i am back this week with another one of my sketches and a new challenge over at The Memory Nest www.thememorynest.blogspot.co.uk. Just a reminder to get crafty and enter our challenge this week.

 I thought i would start getting my holiday photos into an album and i have started with Dawlish a lovely English seaside village that we visit every year. I used American Crafts Maggie Homes Style Board paper pad for the background.

These paper flowers are from Trimcraft and are brilliant for mixed media projects.

                                  The stickers are from the Grace Taylor scrapbook kits which have three different themes. this one is from the Parisian Chic pad GS2681. it has a lot of vintage travel themed papers and stickers in this one.

TMN May Challenge Leslies' Sketch

The first sketch for May and this week the challenge is to use the phrase and sketch to inspire some creativity. link your projects up at The Memory Nest www.thememorynest.blogspot.co.uk.

I had a lot of fun with this challenge and used the rainbow colour theme as the focal point of the layout. I created layers of colour using the Artiste Spritzing inks with various textured stamps. I used a black and white photo as it really pops out amongst all the colours.

I started by dabbing ink on to the page and blowing on it so it spread down the page like branches. I tried to combine the colours so that they blend from one colour to the next like a rainbow.

 once the ink had dried I dug out my stamp box and sorted out a few that had different textures and just filled in the gaps with them. the butterfly stamp is from Kaisercrafts and is called botanicals. I love there stamps as they are so detailed.

 I used a few masks to fill in the larger spaces, the masks I used are Punchinello and Harlequin  from Tando creative.

 the Tim holts typeset alphabet dies have become my new favourite. I just used the card that was left over when I popped the die-cut letter out, I found it was a great way to make up words with out having to constantly use more card.

 the frame I made from a 6x6 pad of Papermania Happy Days cardstock. I used a boarder punch to punch a pattern across the bottom and to use as a marker so I could trim the card to the correct size.

 if you don't own any stamps with textures on you could use patterned washi tape instead.

The Memory Nest April Challenge Crystal's Sketch

The challenge for this week is to use the sketch below with one of the phases. I used a combination of Dear Lizzy with Papermania Spots and Stripe Bright's papers and embellishments. I found the colours livened up the photo which was taken on an overcast day. I just love to use lots of different colours and I just happen to have accumulated a lot of this range  of papers.

I always try to group my page elements in groups of 3 or 5 as this is the most easy on the eye, something to do with the way our brain works means that certain patterns are more appealing then others. I am no brain scientist but if it looks pretty i'm sticking it on.

These little chip board buttons are great to use if you want to add one to the page with out it being to bulky,  if your die-cut letters don't show up to well, you can try carefully drawing around the letters with a fine pen or shade around them for a more artistic effect.

I created a petal boarder using the new Xcut A5 flower die-set, I folded them in the centre to make them stand out more. I found this helped the photo blend in a bit better.
